Historical Background - Wooden Jointed Snake:

Our wooden snake can be painted or decorated for fun and used in home theatricals or pretend play. A painted fake snake placed in your garden may even deter birds and rodents. (Make sure to move it to different areas from time to time.)

Fun Facts about Snakes

Snakes and their imagery have been used in cultures throughout time to represent good and evil as well as rebirth, through the shedding of their skins.

Fake snakes made from jointed wood have been used in theatre productions in place of real snakes.

A rattlesnake is shown on the Gadsden flag of the American Revolution with the words, "Don’t tread on me." The snake was a symbol of resistance to the British. The colonists fought for their rights even though the situation was very dangerous.

Snakes have been associated with the medical field as far back as Asclepius, who was the Green god of medicine and healing. He carried a staff with a snake or serpent wrapped around it.

In the Bible, Moses is mentioned having a pole with a serpent.

The snake is one of the animals in the Chinese Zodiac and represents wisdom, intelligence and intuition.
