The Third Maryland Regiment Flag was reportedly first used in 1777. This flag design was also used at the Battle of Cowpens in South Carolina on January 17, 1781. The actual flag from this battle now hangs in Maryland's Statehouse.
There is no record as to how the stars were to be arranged. Use the above pattern to make a circle of 12 stars pointing away from the center star or place the outside stars in an upright position.
